KENT WALKING FOOTBALL LEAGUE 60+
Match Report
17 June 2021
CANTERBURY CITY 4 RAMSGATE 3
This game was a prime example of how things in football can change in an instant!
The familiar territory of finding ourselves 2-0 down reared its head again and we feared the worst. However, once Dave Eglin had ghosted through the Ramsgate defence for his "once in a lifetime" goal and Rupert had smashed a second in quick succession, the momentum shifted. A 2-2 half time score was a real lift and gave renewed optimism, with the inevitable re-arranging of players to come.
Everyone attacked and defended as a team in the second half, and it came against the run of play when Ramsgate went ahead again. However, this time, a collapse did not materialise, and it is to everyone’s credit that the team kept pushing forward and began to wrestle back control. Dave Tadd fashioned an equaliser from a deflected shot, and Jan kept the scores level with a fine save, before Rupert, marauding forward again, sealed the victory with a neat finish.
Some astute changes at vital times by manager Lance paved the way, and Rupert’s man of the match performance, combining constant movement and communication, was a highlight, alongside the determination of all players involved.
It was great to experience what all other teams in the league, bar us, had celebrated before - a victory!
