We received a warm and friendly welcome from Tony Norton, the main man. Although the weather wasn’t so kind to us and the rain lashed down for the whole of the tournament.

The format was 4 teams, 7-a-side, playing each other twice, 15 mins each game = 6 x 15 mins. Start 13:00, finish 16:30 – one pitch used. Footage/pics to follow.

We won the first 2 by the odd goal in 2 close games, 1 – 0 and 2 – 1. The 3rd game 3 – 0, still a tough game though. The games were played in a good spirit, quite competitive – similar to the games in our walkingfootballkent league.

We had a break of half an hour and returned to the fray with a couple of injuries. With a limited squad this was a challenging scenario and we lost the 3rd game 1 – 2 when we had trouble getting out of our own half as we were pinned down by the Wiltshire ‘A’ team. A cracking goal from the home side with 3 minutes to go finished us off.

A 1 – 1 draw in the 5th left us with work to do in the final game to be sure of finishing on top, but the Canterbury lads fought like lions in the 6th to secure a 3 – 0 victory. the final table can be perused at the top of the article.

Goals: Mundin, Rich, Betts (2), Phillips (2) and top man guest player on the day Tony Norton (5)

Goal of the game.Lets talk about that goal. Mundin picks up the ball from his keeper and starts one of his mazy runs. DON’T DRIBBLE THE BALL OUT FROM THE BACK !!!! Beats 1 man, beats 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 ( hang on-:its 7-a -side !! – one is his own player! Trips over the ball because it gets stuck in a divot. WTF – ITS 3G ! Finds himself with only the keeper to beat. What’s he do? PASSES !!! Starts to walk back to his defensive position! BUT – RETURN !!! PANIC – TURNS SHOOTS. BACK OF THE NET. 1 – 0. GLORY.
