CWFC arrived to find the Bay City squad involved in an intensive training session; the original kick off had been delayed an hour to allow the session to take place. Eventually the kick off was so late that several of the Canterbury players turned out in bed hats and carrying mugs of Ovaltine and a digestive biscuit, yawning their heads off. They were soon woken from their lethargy when the new Bay City goalkeeper twisted like a marlin on the line to pluck a ball out of the air one handed which was heading into the top corner like an Exorcet. LAWRENCE – WATCH YOUR BACK SON – THIS BLOKE IS USEFUL ! Coach Phillips was soon on the mobile checking the walkingfootballkent website to see if there was a Mr P. Cech recently registered under ‘Bay City ‘B’.
Worries were soon after dispelled however, when The Avenger, Roger Betts fired one into the bottom corner from range – the keeper was human after all. Even Cech wouldn’t have stopped that one. Minutes later The Sword, Lance Fishlock curled in a beauty from range. Further strikes from Phillips and The Whippet, Tony McMullen finished the half 4 – 0 up to Canterbury.
After the break Jonathan Butcher showed why he has earned the name, Mr Cool. His first goal was slid under the keeper from the edge of the ‘D’, the second was the best goal you’ll ever see this side of the Camp Nou to finish them off 6 – 0.
Man of the match: (apart from Petr Cech) Jonathan (The Ice Man) Butcher.
