Friendly at Baypoint - BayCity 9 - 10 CWFC

Here we are at BayCity again.
This time is was to be filmed for a program about how sport is a great helper with mental health conditions. Alan, who plays in goal for Baycity had suffered form depression and at one stage had not left his home for 5 years. Then he became involved in Walking football and has not looked back since. We all know his goalkeeping skills as he’s saved many a shot from us Canterbury lads..

Only 5 of us turned up… Tony, Graham, Lance John and Roger. As it was to be 5 aside, off we went.

John was in goal for the first match and did well. We soon shot ahead into a 2 goal lead, then, thinking we had the game won, lost our concentration and in the end went down 5-3.

Bay city then refreshed their team with younger and fitter players, but we we tuaght them a lesson not to be forgotten… don’t underestimate tired and old Canterbury lads. We won that one 4-1 (I think)

So it was down to the final match with all to play for. This was a great match and both teams gave nothing away and playing some excellent footie . and it ended up 3-3 making it even Stevens at the end.

Lance and Graham were superb up front with the rest of us doing our bit behind them. Well done lads.

Big John, Baycity’s coach, was the ref and was in total control, only having to separate the players a few times.

Both teams came off the pitch feeling they’d had a good run out, and I must say that Baycity have a great bunch of lads who play the game as it should played, with the evening being enjoyed by all.

It was then back to the bar for sandies and a chat.

Thank you Baycity for your superb hospitality and hope we can return the favour in the new year.
